At the Feb. 2 meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA), several Senate seats were filled. Tara Coney was voted in as the Graduate Representative, a position that has not been part of the Senate for the last five years. Carly Bell was voted in as the SGA Auditor. Kyle Pemerton and Erin Kelly were voted in as Senators.
Several allocations were given at the meeting. The women's club volleyball team was allocated $497.34 for gas for a conference at University of Virginia (UVA) and Virginia Tech. The club was also reallocated $1,248.72 from last semester. They were originally given the money for a tournament at James Madison University (JMU) and a conference and hotel fees in West Virginia. The club will now use the money for two teams to go to conferences at UVA, JMU and Virginia Tech.
The Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Board got $110 for high tables for an alumni event they are hosting. The Rotunda received $2,852.20 for hotel, airfare and registration fees for four people to attend a conference in Arizona. The FIERCE dance team was allocated $97.11 for gas for an invitational they will be attending in Lynchburg.
Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Tim Pierson came in and spoke on behalf of the administration on the decisions about delaying and canceling classes. He encouraged all students to check the Longwood website for up-to-date information and in all situations, use your own personal judgment regarding your safety.
The next meeting of the SGA will be Feb. 9 at 3:45 p.m. in the BC Rooms of the Student Union.
