Letter to the Editor
Issue date: 9/23/09 Section: Opinion
To the Editor of The Rotunda:
I am writing in response to your editorial from last week that discussed facilities and finances at our University.
After reading the article, I feel as if not one piece of research was put into it. You state that a budget was not available to you regarding the Jarman renovation project before the publication deadline. I don't understand why you did not delay the writing of the editorial until you could have gotten some real facts and evidence regarding the project.
When it comes to money for the Jarman renovation and for the construction of the new Communication Studies Theatre building, that money was allocated by the Commonwealth before the economy hit the rocks. New projects that are paid for by state money were approved by the voters of the Commonwealth through bonds. And when it comes to that pond in the back of campus you refer to, that is a storm water and runoff retention pond, created to further enhance Longwood's vision of going green and being sustainable. Additionally, I don't follow the wisecrack you made at the recent donation to Longwood from a local resident for our new nursing program. Our new nursing program will address a lack of nurses across the Commonwealth and the nation.
I ask that you next time please do some research before you publish an article that mocks the University's decisions and actions.
