Suddenly, he is interrupted because there is a problem at The Orchid, a research station on the island. He discovers that a construction crew is unable to drill a hole through a certain wall because there is a source of unlimited energy behind and no one should risk releasing it. This unlimited energy also causes time travel (cue dramatic music) but most of the workers are skeptical except Dan, our favorite physicist who parachuted onto the island last season.
Cut to Ben Linus and Jack Shephard discussing how to get everyone back to the island while they transport John Locke's body out of the morgue. Fast forward three years earlier … There is a massive flash of light and the island time travels into the past. All the people on the island are confused about why their supplies, shelters and personal items have gone. Dan informs everyone that everything is gone because the plane has not crashed yet so nothing has been built.
In the present day, two lawyers show up at Kate's house to take blood samples from her and her 4-year-old son Aaron (who is really Claire's son) but she refuses to let them and later flees her house with Aaron. Back on the island Locke is walking through a field when a yellow plane carrying religious figurines crashes on the island (the same plane that Locke and Boone find in season 1). Locke is shot by Ethan, an island native who was murdered for kidnapping Claire, while trying to get to the plane.
However, the massive light appears once more and the island moves through time again. Sun is buying a ticket to Los Angeles in present day when she is approached by Whitmore (Penny's father) who demands to know what common interests they have. She tells him they both want to kill Linus. Meanwhile, Linus and Jack learn that Hurley escaped his mental hospital and is accused of murder. However, it is then revealed that Sayid broke Hurley out and committed the murder.
At a safe house Sayid and Hurley are ambushed and kill two more men before escaping. At the island, Dan, Sawyer, Miles and Juliet get to a Dharma station only to find it blown up, which means that they are now in the future after the plane crash. Locke tries to save his leg but is interrupted by Richard, an Other, who explains that only Locke traveled through time. Richard explains that the only way to save the island is to bring the people back who left and the only way to do that is to have Locke die.
