A Thank You from Sigma Kappa
Issue date: 12/3/08 Section: Opinion
On behalf of the Delta Nu Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority, we would like to thank the Longwood community for their participation in the 2008 Alzheimer's Disease Memory Walk. With your support, we were able to exceed our goal, and raise over $5,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.
Alzheimer's disease is an illness of the brain which causes a large number of never cells to die, causing memory loss. Due to the nature of the disease, it can affect someone from anywhere from three to 20 years. It is estimated that nearly half of the world's population over the age of 60 will develop the disease. Currently, it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.
Due to your generosity, as well as your volunteer work, the money raised at this year's Memory Walk will help to fund research that aims at treating, and preventing Alzheimer's disease.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at the 2009 Prince Edward County Memory Walk.
