The Lancer men's soccer team finished the 2008 season tied for eighth place on the final National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA)/Adidas NCAA North Atlantic Regional rankings, as announced by the NSCAA. This was after the team took the second ever Longwood Division I conference title Sunday with their 1-0 shut-out against top-seeded Adelphi University in the championship game of the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) tournament.

The game started slowly, with neither team keeping possession of the ball. The Panthers broke up all half shots Longwood attempted and out-shot the Lancers 5-3. Neither keeper was forced to make a major save before the half with both teams keeping the pressure on the other, ending in a 0-0 stalemate.

Freshman Kevin Chico came out in the second half gunning for a shot on goal in the 49th minute but failed to fool the Panthers goalkeeper.

Junior midfielder Martin Vickerton tallied the lone goal of the game in the 69th minute after a pass from junior Brian Germain, who set up the play picking up an assist while fighting off a couple of Adelphi defenders who were covering him. Vickerton received the pass from Germain at the six-yard line sliding the ball into the far-post.

The Lancers finished the season with 8-8-4 overall and 3-2 in the ASC; Adelphi finished 12-6 overall and 4-1 in the ASC.
