Do you like Blink-182? How about Plain White T’s? Now take the bands, blend them together and throw them into Farmville, and you’ve got the Methods. The band mixes smooth vocals with guitar riffs that bring back memories from the early days of Blink-182.

The Methods are a fairly young band, made up entirely of sophomores, but they’re already got tons of experience. They got together in 2007 and since then have played at parties, the Mad Hatter and even Band Fest. I got the chance to ask Andy Grimm, lead guitarist, a few questions.

What type of band would you classify yourselves as?
We probably best fit under the genre called Power Pop.

Who is in the band?
Me on lead guitar, Kendall Gerrish on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Sam Peck on the drums, and Brian Baker on the bass guitar.

What band(s) influence you the most?
Bands like Blink-182, Sum 41 or Green Day.

What band(s) would you say sounded the most like you?
We sound most like the bands that influence us.

What's everybody's major?
My major is undecided, Kendall's is communications, Brian's is criminal justice and Sam's is business.

How often do you practice?
We practice every day for the most part, in a tree house behind Brian's house.

When was your last performance?
Our latest performances were at a Halloween party and then the Mad Hatter on [Nov.] 7.

What are your plans for the future?
To be big, famous rock stars.

What has been your favorite venue to perform in?
Probably the parties we have played at. It’s really fun because there's no pressure and everyone is always really into it. There are always people jumping around and dancing everywhere, and some even grab the mic from Kendall and sing along.

How do you feel about the music scene in Farmville?
Well, I’m not sure. I think there is some sort of music scene developing in Farmville and on campus because there are other local and student bands around, but I’m not sure what it’s gonna turn into. We’re brand new to the "scene". 

Have any difficulties come up when it comes to booking gigs (ex. they drop you unexpectedly)?
Surprisingly, no. The businesses in the town have been more than happy to accommodate us and help put together shows. Also the events taking place on the Longwood campus have offered us many opportunities to play.

What would you like to say to students?
Thank you to all of those who have supported us and come to see our performances, and for those who haven't I would encourage them to come and enjoy the show. They are all free for the most part. Except for our next one at the Mad Hatter, but that one only costs a dollar.

When is your next performance?
We are playing [Friday] at Lancer Production's "Longwood's Got Talent" at 10 p.m. in the Lankford Ballroom at the Student Union. Our shows are usually free. The Mad Hatter is the first show where we actually charged people, but it’s only a dollar so it’s basically free.
