Letter to the Editor

After reading Tim Holmes' article regarding Oktoberfest and Cameron Patterson and John Hagan's letters to the paper, I agree with them that the article was very inappropriate and very distasteful. Our newspaper is supported and funded not to ridicule and be critical of Longwood's great traditions, but to report on campus news in a fair and unbiased way.
Since the Rotunda is not going to thank the great people that were involved in Oktoberfest, let me take this opportunity to do so. I would first like to thank the entire Mortar Board for their time, work, dedication, and attention that they put into Longwood's great traditions. I would like to also commend Erin West, Katie McQuain, Brittany Tyler, Michelle Owen, Liz Bosworth, and all of the other hard-working folks who made the event such a success.
The Rotunda has done a great job with the new layout, reporting campus events and activities, and getting students the news that is important to them. Please do not let this article and continued scrutiny and criticism over tradition and spirit bring the paper down.

It disheartens me to see that Mr. Miles is saying that because the newspaper is funded by the Student Government Association, they should only pat people on the back and not publish the opinions of those students who oppose certain traditions or aspects of the student life at Longwood. (Continued…)
