A standing ovation greeted Dr. Thomas Botzman, vice president for business and finance at St. Mary's College of Maryland during an open forum on Tues., Feb. 2. Starting Jan. 18, a fundraiser began for Clint Mooney, a Longwood freshman and member of the cross-country team. The cause, "50,000 Mile Challenge" encourages runners from across the state to run and receive pledges from donors for each mile ran. (0) comments

Longwood's department of Natural Sciences must decide between two distinct candidates for the position in Geography and Earth Science made vacant by Dr. Daniel Druckenbrod's departure last spring. Druckenbrod, according to Longwood's web site, was an assistant professor of environmental science and was interested in climate and meteorology. (0) comments

Students received an email around 5 p.m. on Sunday evening, stating that classes would go on as normal on Monday. The decision was later pulled, with a delayed opening announced around 8 p.m. Sunday night. Evening classes on Monday and another delayed opening on Tuesday were also announced. (0) comments
At the Feb. 2 meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA), several Senate seats were filled. Tara Coney was voted in as the Graduate Representative, a position that has not been part of the Senate for the last five years. Carly Bell was voted in as the SGA Auditor. (0) comments
Every December, Longwood University students leave for home after the university closes for the holiday season. Students get a chance to celebrate the holiday and New Year with their family. Most spend the time catching up on much needed sleep and relaxation, preparing themselves for the next semester's workload. (0) comments
Students returning to their dorm rooms this semester noticed something missing. The locks on the outside of the bathroom doors that connect one room to another were gone, due to the September 2009 documentation of a fire code violation. (0) comments
