After spending a total of 13 years involved with Longwood, four as a student and nine teaching, Tammy Gingras Moore has decided to leave LU after the spring 2010 semester. February is Black History Month, the celebration of people of African descent in the United States. It originated in 1926 with Carter G. Woodson, an African American historian, as "Negro History Week". Since that time, the observance has grown to encompass the entire month which was chosen for its inclusion of both Fredrick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays. (1) comment
Weather is a driving force in our lives, affecting everything from the mundane to the extreme. In the morning it dictates what we decide to wear and in the evening it dictates our dinner plans. Weathermen, or meteorologists, have built careers around studying weather patterns, trying to understand the how's and why's of weather on our planet earth. (0) comments

Like everybody who has ever enjoyed a snow day as a child, I am well aware that snow is much more than a collection of crystalline water ice flakes. Snow can be magical, practical, or even an artistic medium. As somebody who grew up on Calvin and Hobbes, I have always wanted to build my own macabre legion of snowmen for the sole purpose of terrifying the neighbors. (0) comments
